The People of the Land Trust: Ron Barraclough

If you’ve been out to Webber Lake over the last few years, you may have seen Ron Barraclough, volunteering to paint many of the historic structures including Webber Lake Hotel, and showing great care for a place he holds dear.

While he moved around frequently in a military family as a child, his first trip to the area dates back to 1955, developing a love for the northern Sierra that would last a lifetime.

He retired from his career in advertising and moved to the Truckee/Tahoe area in 2008 to enjoy the outdoors.

“Camping at Webber Lake the first time was the elixir I needed to begin my quest to become a friend of the Truckee Donner Land Trust,” Ron said. “When the restoration of the hotel began, I was fascinated with the effort and wanted to contribute in some form.”

Ron assembled a team of friends and family to re-paint the historic hotel to the standards of the Sierra County Historical Society.

“I would love that my grandchildren and future generations be able to enjoy Webber Lake as we have, and perhaps note the importance of the hotel in its historical signific,” Ron said.
