As you consider your ballot for the November 6 election, the Truckee Donner Land Trust asks you to support California Proposition 3, the Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018.

The $8.877 billion bond supports water infrastructure – which includes the natural infrastructure of the Sierra that help supply California with 60 percent of its water. For the Land Trust, that means continued funding for critical acquisition and restoration projects that protect headwaters, streams, wet meadows and forests of our region.

And while the Sierra supplies 60 percent of the water to the state, the Sierra has historically received very little funding for water – as low as 1 or 2 percent. With water bonds dating back to Propositions 40 and 50, including Prop 68 from earlier this year – Proposition 3 represents the best opportunity for the Sierra yet.

Past water resource bond measures have helped fund every major acquisition project of the Land Trust to date. This type of funding has been critical to restoration efforts like forestry at Webber Lake and current work in Johnson Canyon. And Prop 3 will be essential to our work moving forward.

Protecting these lands, managing forests to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk and ensuring the waters they supply all go hand-in-hand. This proposition is an important step towards properly recognizing that.

Please join us in voting YES on Proposition 3 on November 6.
