Lower Carpenter Valley Closed for 2026

Pursuant to US Forest Service Order 17-26-01, the road that accesses Truckee Donner Land Trust’s Lower Carpenter Valley property will be closed for 2026 to complete forest health work in the area.

The Alder 89 WUI (wilderness urban interface) project closes all Forest Service lands in the area. Click here to read the Forest Service order.

While we understand it may be disappointing to loose access to Lower Carpenter Valley this year, this project is vital to reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire damaging not only Lower Carpenter Valley, but also adjacent neighborhoods including Tahoe Donner and Prosser Lake View. The result will be a healthier, more resilient forest, which benefits all of our region’s protected open space and the natural resources on which we all rely.

There are many other Land Trust lands to explore – click here to find a different hike, ride, or run, or give us a call (530-582-4711) – we’re always happy to about our lands and trails.
